The first thing to establish when creating a budget for your wedding is deciding who is paying for the wedding.  In the olden days, the bride’s family is the one responsible for paying for the whole wedding while the groom is responsible for the rings and the honeymoon. Of course, this stems from the days when women had dowries and marriages were often arranged for financial and social reasons.  But nowadays, there are really no hard and fast rules regarding who gets to pay, it usually depends on the financial capabilities of the families involved.  Most modern couples opt to pay for their own weddings, usually with just a minimal amount of help from the parents.
